CusickGallery.net: Henry Ian Cusick

The origins of why Ian often has a black band around his wrist is simple: It is his signal to his fans that he is thinking of them. Ian’s fanclub has had a few incarnations, as Ian’s Band (of Followers), and Brothas and Sistahs (the Lost era). The story behind Ian’s black Bracelet

5 June 2013 |

Henry Ian Cusick became a fan favourite early on in his role as Desmond on Lost.

In particular, fans on the Lost Creative Team’s Official Site,  The Fuselage, embraced Ian and his character immediately.

Ian remains a fan favourite because he is such an exceptionally nice, down to earth, giving and caring person.

The story about why you’ll spot Ian or one of his characters wearing a black wrist band is available below,

and on his website – thanks, Dani… great post!

All of us at The Cusick Gallery are extremely honoured to be part of this story,

and what started as a cute little suggestion has become a bond between Ian and his fans.

Thank you, Ian… you are one of a kind, truly the best of the best, and we endlessly appreciate all you do for us!

The story behind Ian’s black Bracelet

Many of you have wondered about the black bracelet Ian wears.

During the filming of LOST, Ian would wear black elastic bands around his wrist so that he could have them on hand to hold back his hair.   A group of his loyal fans who run his fan sites, started calling themselves his “band of followers” and would all wear black bands to show their support. Later his fans became known as Brothas and Sistahs.

When  Ian cut his hair,  he no longer needed the black elastic bands but he started wearing a black leather one they made for him to show his appreciation and  love for his fans.   Much to their delight, he now wears it all the time, on camera, at events, during interviews.  It has very special meaning to his fan club because they know it is for them.

“His fans are really lovely people and very good to us.” says his wife Annie.  “They even sent me cards on my birthday, and made me my own bracelet with an engraved heard that says,  ‘#1 Fangirl’ .  They are fiercely loyal and protective of Ian and he of them.  The bracelet is very special to him and wearing it is his way of showing his appreciation and letting them know  he is thinking of them.”

CusickGallery is getting Ian’s Band back together, and we welcome any Band members, old and new! If you are a fan of Henry Ian Cusick, consider joining the Band, and let’s rock this fandom! If you see any of the CG Moderators at the upcoming Cons (WS Atlanta and RICC Providence), please come up and tell us you’re in the Band!

One of our most favourite videos, courtesty of @JustinHires, being great and silly and so enjoyable with Ian.

Ian has been working tres hard, and has a lot of lines to learn. Bless his heart! We love him for being so good at large amounts of dialogue…just part of his talents.

More of Ian’s talents….voicing the doggie as his owner returns:

“Where have you been?” “You were behind that tree.”

He’s so much fun…and loves the animals always!

These doppelgangers have long been mistaken for each other, both in photos and onscreen.

@JamesCallis was beloved as Dr. Gaius Baltar on Battlestar Galactica, where he appeared in 73 episodes from 2004-2009. Ian was beloved as Desmond Hume in 74 episodes of Lost, from 2005-2010. The cases of mistaken identity onscreen have been plentiful.

But it hasn’t always been James and Ian…

Needless to say, we were excited to see they were on set together, and we all really appreciate the photo. Next, to see if they appear together onscreen during this MacGyver episode. Curiosity is sparked: brothers? cousins? evil twin? Sorry to hear that it might be as late as April before we know. Fingers are crossed globally for a January premiere.
