News/ CW Scoop: Vampire Diaries Boss’ The Tomorrow People, The 100 Ordered to Series

The CW is betting on the future.

The young network has picked up two future-set dramas, The Tomorrow People and The 100, joining The Vampire Diaries‘ spinoff The Originals, which was already ordered to series. Star-Crossed, a high school drama centering on a romance between an alien and a human, and Reign, which tells the story of a young Mary Queen of Scot, were also picked up.

The Tomorrow People comes from The Vampire Diaries‘ boss Julie Plec (Who needs sleep?) and Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti, while The 100 brings Lost fan favorite Henry Ian Cusisk back to TV!

The Tomorrow People: From Arrow‘s Greg Berlanti and The Vampire Diaries’ Julie Plec, this drama centers on a group of young people who represent the next stage of human evolution, aka have special abilities à la X-Men and Heroes. Arrow star Stephen Amell‘s cousin Robbie Amell and Supernatural standout Mark Pellegrino star in the project, which is based on the original U.K. series.

The 100: After nuclear war destroys civilization, Earth’s lone survivors are living in a spaceship in this postapocalyptic drama. The title refers to the 100 juvenile delinquents that are sent back down to Earth to see if the planet can be lived on again. Newcomer Eliza Taylor, Grey’s Anatomy‘s Isaiah Washington, Lost‘s Henry Ian Cusick, Arrow’s Kelly Hu all star.

Star-Crossed: 90210‘s Matt Lanter stars as an alien boy, who is the member of a group called The Orion 9 that are integrated into a regular high school ten years after their people landed on Earth and were placed in internment camps. Of course, he falls in love with a human girl, played by Friday Night Lights‘ Aimee Teegarden. Think District 9 meets Roswell. Grey Damon and Vampire Diaries fan favorite Malese Jow also star.

Reign: Prepare to learn the story of Mary Queen of Scot’s (played by Adelaide Kane, who can be seen on Teen Wolf‘s upcoming season) rise to power in this drama centering on the 15-year-old’s arrival in France and engagement to Prince Francis. Coming along for the ride are her three BFFs as her ladies-in-waiting, who will help her navigate the French Court, which is full of foes, dark forces and sexual intrigue.

The CW recently renewed Beauty and the Beast and Hart of Dixie, as well as The Vampire Diaries, Arrow and Supernatural.
