Annie Cusick Wood commissions works of art from “Lost” cast
Honolulu Theatre for Youth (HTY) is setting up an
Actors and Artists Fund.
Ian’s wife, Annie, a theatre director and playwright who sits on the Board of HTY, has organized some fantastic auction items, and they will be available for viewing at the fundraising kick-off party this coming Thursday in Honolulu.
These particular items will be available for auction at a later date, as well as some Ian-related items, so stay tuned!
‘Lost’ actors show off art to raise funds for theater
POSTED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Feb 06, 2011
A gallery of donated artwork by “Lost” actors, representing their time here over six seasons filming the hit ABC series, will be exhibited for the first time at a Honolulu Theatre for Youth fundraising kickoff party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Tenney Theatre.
The works, commissioned by HTY trustee Annie Cusick Wood (spouse of “Lost” actor Ian Cusick, who played Desmond), eventually will be auctioned but will highlight the HTY’s Actors & Artists Fund-Launching event.
The actors/artists include Terry O’Quinn (John Locke), who fashioned a bracelet from shells he collected on the North Shore; Ken Leung (Miles), who did a sketch of actress Evangeline Lilly (Kate); Jorge Garcia (Hurley), who rendered a painting of himself dive-bombing into the water (with butt crack showing!); and Josh Holloway (Sawyer), who did a watercolor painting of himself fishing on a boat.
Additionally, Michael Emerson (Ben), a former graphic artist, donated a work he did a while back. …
Community notables, such as Daniel Dae Kim, who played Jin on “Lost” and stars as Chin Ho Kelly on CBS’s “Hawaii Five-0”, Kirk Matthews and Trini Kaopuiki of KHON2 and ex-anchor Linda Coble (aka Mrs. Matthews) will read snippets from three future HTY shows (“Lion Dancer,” “Tasi’s Gift” and “Poetry Fever”) at 6 p.m. Hosted pupu and drinks will begin at 5:30 p.m. To secure space, call Carolyn at 839-9885, ext. 711. …
RANDOM NOTES: Jane Campbell is back in the HTY fold as one of the new trustees, one of the few jobs she hasn’t had during her earlier 40-plus-year career with the organization. By the way, HTY’s “Apollo: To the Moon,” part of the “Season of Science,” is a box office hit. It opened Jan. 28, on the 25th anniversary of the Challenger space disaster, and actor Antonio Anagaran‘s incredible and acrobatic work has been a reason for its success. Performances are at 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Feb. 19. Call 839-9885 or go to www.htyweb.org. …
Fifty-one years after he played the title role in HTY’s “Rumpelstiltskin,” veteran stage director Ron Bright comes full circle when he directs the popular children’s fairy tale Saturday at Paliku Theatre at Windward Community College. This time, local actor Levi Oliveira has the lead. For tickets, call 235-7433. …
FUN AND GAME: Following his performance as Inca (a Shark) in the recently closed Broadway musical “West Side Story,” islander Isaac Calpito remains active on the theatrical scene. He is the choreographer of “Brooke Shields: In My Life,” now playing through Saturday at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency. The New York Times called the production “a light-hearted autobiographical souffle of monologues stitched together by songs.” Calpito adds, “The show is amazing; Brooke is gorgeous and an absolute pro!” Calpito worked with director Mark Waldrop and musical director Charlie Alterman. Shields also is in Alan Menken‘s Broadway-bound “Leap of Faith.” …
Additionally, Calpito has been a driving force of “Thank You Next,” an online “mockumentary” about the creation of a Broadway musical in which he plays a riotous gay choreographer witnessing “A Chorus Line”-style auditions. Check it out at www.thankyounextseries.com. The “webisode” is a hit within the theater community and has just been tapped to join the L.A. WebFest March 25 through 27. …
In the midst of snowy New York, Calpito misses his Waimanalo hometown “but (is) very blessed and happy to be working in this town.” …
NAME-DROPPING: Alex O’Loughlin, Steve McGarrett on CBS’ “Hawaii Five-0,” is the cover story on Australia’s Jetstar Airlines’ in-flight magazine. The Aussie native shares his feelings about living on Oahu while working (he loves it), awakening to see the surf from his home, the nature of the reboot show (it has what he dubs the three C’s: comedy, character and crime). Further, he shows skin — and his tattoos. …
And that’s “Show Biz.” …
