TV Guide Magazine says, “Earth is the new final frontier in this futuristic drama featuring a band of space-station juvies – 100 of them, to be precise – who go a bit native after being forced to explore the now-nuclear-ravaged planet.
‘I wanted to do a Lord of the Flies writ large and a story about colonizing another planet,’ says executive producer Jason Rothenberg, who found a perfect pairing of those ideas in the galleys for Kass Morgan’s young-adult novel of the same. ‘I read it and was like ‘This is exactly what I want to do, but the planet is earth!”
The Series will split it’s time between the Earth’s surface – where teenager Clarke and her fellow parolees battle one another, hormones and unnamed horrors – and the Ark, an orbiting monolith that houses a handful of power-grabbing adults (including Person of Interest‘s Paige Turco, Lost‘s Henry Ian Cusick, and Grey’s Anatomy vet Isaiah Washington).
‘Like [on] Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, nobody is safe,’ stresses Rothenberg. ‘That is the kind of violence and the kind of world this is.’
